Kristina Mladenovic vs Timea Bacsinszky, Roland Garros QF Preview

Roland Garros, 🇫🇷🐌 Quarter-Final Preview + Prediction
QF #2: (13) 🇫🇷 Kristina Mladenovic vs (30) 🇨🇭 Timea Bacsinszky

Kristina Mladenovic will look to continue her dream run at her home Grand Slam at Roland Garros when she comes up against Timea Bacsinszky at the quarter-final stage in Paris on Tuesday. Mladenovic has already won three epic matches in Paris, the 24-year-old has been spurred on by the boisterous Parisian crowd, a force that seems to be making Mladenovic stronger. Bacsinszky is also right at home at Roland Garros, The Swiss number 1 is into the quarter-final stage for the third consecutive year in Paris, Bacsinszky will be looking to emulate her 2015 run to the final four by battling her way past an in-form Mladenovic. The scene is set for an epic between to fierce competitors.

Kristina Mladenovic has had a less than straightforward passage to the quarter-final stage in Paris. Mladenovic started the tournament with an epic struggle, overcoming an injury concern to defeat Jennifer Brady 3-6 6-3 9-7. Mladenovic’s only straightforward match of the event came in the second round where she defeated Sara Errani 6-2 6-3. In the third round Mladenovic was again on the verge of defeat as she trailed Shelby Rogers 2-5 in the deciding set, the Frenchwoman recovered to claim a memorable 7-5 4-6 8-6 win. Mladenovic confirmed her spot in the quarter-finals with a 6-1 3-6 6-3 win over defending champion Garbine Muguruza in front of a rowdy crowd on Court Suzanne Lenglen, one of Mladenovic’s most impressive wins of her career.

Timea Bacsinszky’s love affair with Paris has continued in 2017. Bacsinszky is now the only player to reach the quarter-final at Roland Garros in the last three years. Bacsinszky raced through her first three matches at Roland Garros, defeating Sara Sorribes-Tormo, Madison Brengle and Ons Jabeur in straight sets. Timea’s biggest challenge came in the fourth round where she met a determined Venus Williams, Bacsinszky eventually wore the American down and notched up a 5-7 6-2 6-1 win to set up a clash with Mladenovic.

Mladenovic and Bacsinszky have split their two previous meetings. Mladenovic defeated Bacsinszky 6-1 7-5 on grass in Eastbourne in 2016 whilst more recently Bacsinszky won an epic Fed Cup tie over the Frenchwoman earlier this year on an indoor hard court, a 7-6 4-6 7-5 win.

This is another quarter-final match that features an interesting contrast in styles. This is a tough match to call, I’m going to give Bacsinszky the slight edge. Mladenovic may have entered this tournament in great form but she hasn’t necessarily been playing well in Paris, Mladenovic has mostly just done enough to get the job done, I don’t think this is going to be enough against Bacsinszky who will give very little away. Bacsinszky will head into this match the fresher of the two and I think she will be smart enough to eventually ware down Mladenovic and fight her way to a memorable victory at Roland Garros.

Prediction: (30) Timea Bacsinszky to defeat (13) Kristina Mladenovic in 3 sets
