Venus Williams vs Carla Suarez Navarro, U.S Open R4 Preview

US Open, πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŽπŸ—½πŸš• R4 Preview + Prediction:
(9) πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Venus Williams vs πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ Carla Suarez Navarro

Venus Williams and Carla Suarez Navarro will renew hostilities when they meet at the fourth round stage at Flushing Meadows on Saturday. Venus and Carla have built up a solid, competitive rivalry over the years, this will be their 8th career meeting with Venus currently leading the head-to-head 4-3. This is an enjoyable match-up because of the extreme contrast in styles, the raw power of Williams up against the finesse and consistency of Suarez Navarro. On a hard court, the head-to-head record is split at 2 wins apiece, who will edge ahead with a win in New York and move on to the second week?

Venus Williams got off to a scratchy start in New York, Venus was pushed to a third set by Viktoria Kuzmova before improving her level to win straight set matches over Oceane Dodin and Maria Sakkari. Conversely, Suarez Navarro cruised through her first round match over Ipek Soylu before winning a couple of tough three set matches against Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and Ekaterina Makarova. The U.S Open has been a surprisingly successful tournament for Suarez Navarro over the years, a win over Venus Williams on Sunday would be up there in terms of career victories for Carla if she can pull off the upset.

Ultimately, I have to give the edge to Venus Williams here. On a hard court, given the form Venus has displayed all year she must be considered a reasonable favourite. Venus has all the weapons to hurt Suarez Navarro on this surface. However, we have seen before that Suarez Navarro does have the defensive skills to frustrate Venus. I think this will be a close match with a few swings in momentum but ultimately it will be the mentally tough, experienced Venus that pulls through when it matters most.

  1. Here i will give edge to CSN. She is tough opponent for Williams, because of her playing style. Williams has big weapon against CSN, powerful serve, and that’s all she has.

    1. It’s not all she has.. she can hit hard and flat into the csn backhand and move forward.. she can do that to the forehand side too. She can also dominate points on CSN’s serve with big returns..

  2. KOneTimeT,

You may have a strong point there. But not to overlook the power and experience of Venus playing @ Home!

I think CSN has a good chance of upsetting Venus today as she is in better form. CSN has came through a tougher draw than Venus making her more confident. With better form CSN beat a tough in-form Makarova, a resurgent, powerful & motivated MLB and a tough & suddenly in-form Ipek Soylu (won 3 matches at USO)

CSN is also faster and stronger being 9 years younger than Venus.

THE USO organizers seem to have given Venus a very, very easy draw to enable a popular but aging and losing star (for marketing purpose). The last 3 wins are not convincing against a weak Maria Sakkari, out-of-form/error prone Oceane Dodin and a low ranking Viktoriya Kuzmova. Too many unforced errors not acceptable for a big & experienced player like Venus.

Venus can win if she plays with fewer errors and play inspired with the home crowd support.

Expecting a close fight going into a 3rd set. Leaning on over(21.5) to win here. +3.5 CSN is not bad as she can win outright also.

Leaning on Mugurza, Sevastova (Sharapova…too many errors and a slow starter. Sevastova can kill her today!lol) and Sloane (Georges is playing better and can upset Sloane today. Over can hit. Georges is having revenge on her mind. Will stat fast unlike last H2H and win! She just needs to reduce her UE count and blast Sloane with her missile serves and returns!) to win.

Wondering what Jason, Largon,…legs etc. are thinking and betting? Hope they can all discuss their analysis before the match rather than after to be beneficial to all and bet on clean winners.
