Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open, Preview + Prediction
R1: (6) 🇷🇺 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs 🇭🇺 Timea Babos
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will look to rebound from a couple of early round exits in Wuhan and Beijing with a strong showing at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open. Pavlyuchenkova will begin her Hong Kong campaign with a first round clash against Timea Babos, a potentially dangerous opponent for the Russian.
Pavlyuchenkova’s Asian swing got off to a great start in Tokyo where she stormed into the final where she was beaten by Caroline Wozniacki. That week seemed to take a bit out of the Russian who then went on to suffer early exits in Wuhan and Beijing. After some time to recover, Pavlyuchenkova will be expecting a good week in Hong Kong. Timea Babos will be no pushover, the Hungarian is playing her best tennis of the season at the moment having reached back-to-back finals in Quebec City and Tashkent.
Pavlyuchenkova won the only previous match between the pair, a tight three set win in Monterrey earlier this year. I expect this to another fairly tight match but Pavlyuchenkova’s more dynamic game should again see her prevail. Pavlyuchenkova has been far more consistent in 2017, her base level in higher than Timea’s and that should see her come through this one in a couple of tight sets.
