Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open, Preview + Prediction
R2: (4) 🇵🇱 Agnieszka Radwanska vs 🇦🇺 Samantha Stosur
Agnieszka Radwanska and Samantha Stosur will renew hostilities on Wednesday when they meet at the second round stage of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open. Radwanska and Stosur both advanced to the second round in Hong Kong with wins over local wild cards, Radwanska cruised through in straights sets, whilst Stosur laboured to a three set win. This will be the first meeting between Radwanska and Stosur in over 4 years, interestingly, it is Stosur who holds a 3-1 record over Radwanska and has won their last 3 matches.
Radwanska and Stosur have both had disappointing seasons. Stosur recently returned from injury and has been very rusty throughout the Asian swing. Stosur returned to the tour with three consecutive first round losses before finally breaking her duck in Beijing last week. The Australian came close to another shocking first round exit in Hong Kong but recovered to claim a 6-3 4-6 6-1 win over Ya-Hsuan Lee.
Radwanska has shown decent form during the Asian swing and seems to be playing some of her best tennis of the season, which is often the case for the Pole this late in the year. Radwanska stormed through her opening round match in Hong Kong, beating Ling Zhang 6-1 6-2. Radwanska will receive a much tougher test on Wednesday night against Stosur, an opponent she has struggled against in the past.
Despite Stosur winning the last three matches between the pair, It is Radwanska who should be winning this match. Stosur has shown no signs of being able to compete with someone of Radwanska’s quality, even if Radwanska is past her prime. The heavy conditions at night will probably suit Stosur, therefore I would not be surprised if this was pushed to a third set but ultimately Radwanska will be too solid when matters.
