Agnieszka Radwanska vs Shuai Peng, New Haven QF Preview

Connecticut Open, 🇺🇸🏫 New Haven preview + prediction
QF: (1) 🇵🇱 Agnieszka Radwanska vs (8) 🇨🇳 Shuai Peng

Agnieszka Radwanska will continue her title defense at the Connecticut Open on Thursday when she comes up against Shuai Peng at the quarter-final stage in New Haven. Radwanska and Peng both breezed through their second round clashes in straight sets and are seemingly in decent form heading into this clash. The head-to-head record between the two is currently split at three wins apiece. Peng has won their two most recent clashes and has generally been playing the better tennis this year, can Peng again get the better of the Pole?

Agnieszka Radwanska kick-started her title defense at the Connecticut open with a fairly comfortable 6-3 7-5 win over Eugenie Bouchard. Radwanska extended her perfect record over the Canadian to 4-0, the Pole was again too crafty and consistent for Bouchard. Peng Shuai was also too consistent for her second round opponent, Peng defeated Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-2 6-3 to enter the quarter-final stage in New Haven. It was a welcome comfortable win for Peng who came through a tough three set win over Katerina Siniakova in the first round.

Peng Shuai easily accounted for Radwanska earlier this year in their most recent match. Peng claimed a 6-4 6-4 win in Indian Wells. Radwanska is in much better shape heading into this quarter-final match in New Haven. I’m going to give Radwanska the edge here, the top seed looks to be closer to her best at the moment whilst Peng has seemingly been struggling physically in recent times and may not be fresh enough to get past an opponent as solid as Radwanska. Expect Radwanska to eventually grind out a win.

  1. Congrats wtaaddict, in R2 you got all winners except daria! That is like 95% prediction rate.

Today I think Peng will defeat Radwanska in 2 mostly.

Radwanska is in poorer form overall and on hard compared tp Peng. Besides that she recently got married and is in a honeymoon kinda mood to win this tough match up. Peng also leads 4-2 in the H2H matches on hard.

So, it is Peng(ML,-1,-2 etc.) all the way for me today.

    My other predictions are:-

    (Q) Kirsten Flipkens (ML) to defeat Daria Gavrilova (+ handicap points) in 2 or 3 sets. Flip has the H2H Adv besides being the stronger player. But Daria is the tougher cookie though flakey.

    (Q) Elise Mertens (ML) to defeat Shuai Zhang in 3 sets

    (6) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to defeat (2) Dominika Cibulkova in 3 sets

Jason, Pieman etc. what you got in WTA and ATP(Agut and others over)?

    • Seems like Peng was not quite at her best today, Radwanska is playing much better this week and was too good! Pavlyuchenkova was a bit of a disappointment against Cibulkova. Gavrilova was very impressive and seems a good chance to beat Radwanska..
