Nature Valley International, Eastbourne R2
🇷🇴 (6) Simona Halep vs. 🇹🇼 Su-Wei Hsieh
Simona Halep will be on upset alert when she begins her 2019 grass court campaign with a second round clash against Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh in Eastbourne. Halep received a bye through the first round in Eastbourne and will be playing in her first match since Roland Garros. Conversely, Hsieh is already quite familiar with the grass having claimed another top 10 win last week in Birmingham where she beat Aryna Sabalenka and also won the doubles title.
I’m going to go for the upset and side with Hsieh. I think Hsieh is primed to take down Halep. Hsieh is battle hardened and familiar with the grass at the moment having played a lot of tennis over the last few weeks. Conversely this is Halep’s first competitive match on the surface in almost a year, a surface she has traditionally struggled on. Hsieh defeated Halep at Wimbledon last year, her awkward game is tough for Halep to deal with on this surface. Halep struggles to deal with the Hsieh slice and drop shot, lob combo. Hsieh is confident and has nothing to lose here and has a good chance at taking down a rusty Halep.
