Angelique Kerber vs. Serena Williams, Wimbledon Final Prediction

🇬🇧 Wimbledon championships match prediction
🇩🇪 (11) Angelique Kerber vs. 🇺🇸 (25) Serena Williams

I’m going to side with Angelique Kerber. There are several reasons I am siding with Kerber, I think this is the German’s time to shine. It is Kerber who comes into this final better positioned to perform at a consistently higher level.

Angelique Kerber of Germany in action during her second-round match at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships Grand Slam tournament

Firstly, Kerber is far more battle-hardened heading into this match. Kerber has won more matches than any other player in 2018, she is high on confidence and knows that she has the stamina to last as long as it takes. Kerber has been extremely consistent in 2018, arguably the most consistent player on tour. Interestingly every single one of Kerber’s losses in 2018 have come against fellow counter-punchers or defensive players. It can be said that Kerber enjoys playing against powerful opponents as we saw in her victories over Naomi Osaka and Jelena Ostapenko over the last week, these are the match-ups that she enjoys.

Kerber is serving very well at the moment, this gives her a great opportunity in this match-up. If Kerber keeps up a high first serve percentage as she has in her previous matches, she can keep this match close and put pressure on the American. This is undoubtedly the toughest challenge Serena has faced for a long time, Serena has not faced such a solid counter-puncher yet in 2018, Kerber will provide a whole different test, one that Serena will need to be consistently at her best to overcome. It remains unknown if Serena can produce such a performance.

All the pressure is on Williams here, it really feels like Kerber has nothing to lose, another factor in the German’s favour. OF course, I will not at all be surprised to see Serena win, she is the a champion, but I think Kerber is the rightful favourite and I think she will make the most of this opportunity.

Prediction: Angelique Kerber to defeat Serena Williams in 3 sets
