Johanna Konta vs. Marketa Vondrousova, Roland Garros SF Prediction

🇫🇷🥖💶 Roland Garros, SF Prediction
🇬🇧 (26) Johanna Konta vs. 🇨🇿 Marketa Vondrousova

Johanna Konta or Marketa Vondrousova will book a spot in a maiden Grand Slam final on Thursday when the pair do battle at the semi-final stage at Roland Garros. Konta and Vondrousova were two of the form players on tour heading into the event and have certainly carried their strong form all the way through the draw in Paris. Konta has dropped just 1 set on route to her third Grand Slam semi-final whilst Vondrousova is yet to drop a set and will be playing in her very first Grand Slam semi-final at just 19 years of age.

I’m going to give the slight edge to Vondrousova heading into this semi-final clash. Whilst experience and recent head-to-head form are on Konta’s side, I think Vondrousova has the game to take down Konta in this occasion. Konta’s success over the last few weeks has been built around her serve. Konta was dominant behind her serve against Sloane Stephens in the previous round but is likely to face much stronger resistance in this match. Vondrousova boasts the highest percentage of return games won of anyone on the WTA tour, therefore she has the game to combat Konta’s strongest weapon, especially on this surface.

The pressure is on Konta heading into this match, Konta has been to this stage before and will know that she may not get many more opportunities like this again. Conversely, Vondrousova is young and playing with freedom and confidence at the moment, at just 19 years of age it is likely she will have many more chances at this level. This type of scenario should favour Vondrousova. Furthermore, the versatility and defensive ability of Vondrousova gives her the edge in this match-up in my opinion. Expect this to be a close one with Vondrousova just sneaking through to continue her fairy tale run in Paris.

Prediction: Marketa Vondrousova to defeat Johanna Konta in 3 sets
