This promises to be a close final between two big-serving, powerful opponents. Both Pliskova and Vandeweghe would consider clay to be their worst surface, to win a big clay court event such as Stuttgart would be a huge achievement for both, who will make the most of this opportunity?

Pliskova and Vandeweghe did not face a break point during their semi-final victories yesterday. Both are serving extremely well this week, Vandeweghe has not been broken in her last two matches whilst Pliskova has served over 10 aces twice this week. This all means that there will be little margin in this match, a break of serve is likely to be the difference in each set, whilst a tiebreak or two is likely.

I’m going to side with Pliskova here. I think Pliskova has the slightly more versatile game. I think Pliskova is more consistent and more mentally stable which is going to be an important factor in what should be a tight final. Importantly I think Pliskova is the better defender which was especially on display during her win over Jelena Ostapenko a few days ago. Pliskova is the better player.

Prediction: Karolina Pliskova to defeat CoCo Vandeweghe in 3 sets
