The 2016 runner-up in New York begins her 2017 campaign with a first round clash against Poland’s Magda Linette. The U.S Open is a special event for Pliskova given the 2016 tournament was her first major breakthrough at the Grand Slam level, since then Pliskova has been the most consistent player on tour and is one of the favourites to win the title in 2017.

U.S Open R2: (15) Agnieszka Radwanska vs Magda Linette
Agnieszka Radwanska began her 2015 U.S Open campaign with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 victory over Kateryna Siniakova. Radwanska will continue her quest for a maiden quarter-final appearance at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday when she comes up against compatriot Magda Linette.
Radwanska produced a very clean performance on Monday to advance to the second round. The Pole’s serve worked nicely, maintaining a high first serve percentage and winning a very high percentage of first serve points. Aga was far too classy for Siniakova from the baseline, throwing in some trademark drop shots to perfect effect. Radwanska should find her second round encounter equally comfortable.
Magda Linette picked up her very first main draw victory at Flushing Meadows on Monday, defeating Urszula Radwanska 7-6 6-1. Magda’s victory over Urszula was also her very first main draw victory at a Grand Slam, a big achievement for the Pole. Magda now has an opportunity to play her nation’s number 1 player in the second round.
This will be the very first meeting between Aga and Magda. Aga will however have a good insight into Magda’s game, Ula will no doubt tell Aga everything she needs to know. Aga should be far too classy, it is important that she wins these kinds of matches as quickly as possible to remain as fresh as possible moving forward.
Prediction: Aga Radwanska to defeat Magda Linette in 2 sets
